摘要:@@In civil engineering, the term “composite structures” is traditionally used (e.g. In the steel-concrete compositeconstruction area) to refer to structures in which different structural materials are combined at the component level toachieve advantages not available with structures composed of components of the same material composition. Therefore, a concrete-filled steel tubular column is a composite structure, but a reinforced concrete frame is not acomposite structure. In recent years, fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite materials have been employed todevelop new forms of composite structures (e.g. Concrete-filled FRP tubular columns), but such structures have beencommonly referred to as “hybrid structures” as the term “composite structures” has been commonly used to refer tostructures made purely of FRP. The different usages of the two terms of “composite structures” and “hybrid structures”in the two different areas are followed in the present paper where appropriate, but the term “composite structures” isalso used in its generic sense to include structures that incorporate FRP for brevity. It should be noted the term “hybridstructures” in the FRP area should not be confused with the term “hybrid/mixed structures/construction” which refersto the combination of different materials at the system level such as a structure composed of a steel frame and an RCcore.
