A section on Adhesive applications this month includes two items of particular note, the first being a contribution illustrating how the presence of nanosilica particles in a pressure sensitive adhesive can enhance cohesive strength of applied coatings without compromising peel adhesion. The second describes the use of foamed adhesives that enable lower coat weights to be employed, thereby reducing costs to the end-user.In the Coatings applications section there is an item describing the formulation of heavy-duty anti-graffiti coatings containing a fluoro-functional dispersion as a component claimed to give superior performance to prior waterborne systems.A patent describing a penetrative coating for wood and masonry based on a combination of drying oil and low MW acrylic dispersion is also noteworthy.
