从模因论的视角阐释英语习语翻译中的归化和异化

摘要

作为文化发展过程中的一个特殊组成部分，习语一直被认为是语言与文化交流中的一个难题。由于它们形式简洁凝练，语义丰富多彩，因而被广泛应用于人们的日常生活和文学作品中。然而，它们的这些特点却增加了习语翻译的难度。为了帮助读者熟悉这一语言形式进而更好的了解异国的文化，习语译者长期以来都在努力寻找适合习语翻译的策略。现在，人们已经认识到习语翻译不仅仅是语言之间的传递，而且更是文化的交流。因为翻译从本质上说就是一种跨文化交际活动。为了解决这一难题，翻译家们提出归化和异化这两种文化翻译策略并引起了广泛关注。归化和异化并不矛盾，它们只是习语翻译中的两种不同选择。
　　 模因作为文化复制和传播的基本单位，对英语习语翻译的归化和异化策略有一定的解释力。关于模因的研究——模因论被越来越多的理论家所接受。本文尽最大努力用这个相对较新，基于模因的概念研究语言交流进化模式的文化进化理论阐释英语习语翻译的归化和异化策略。这为深入理解英语习语翻译中的两种文化策略提供了崭新的研究视角。
　　 通过比较和对比不同的英语习语翻译，作者最终做出结论：归化和异化都在英语习语翻译中起着重要作用，我们能够以模因为传递手段，运用归化和异化更灵活的处理原语文化中的英语习语。归化和异化这两种翻译策略的本质就是成功模因的传递。归化是模因传播初期必要的手段，而异化则是模因传播的必然要求和趋势。归化为异化铺平了道路。异化将会成为英语习语翻译的主流，归化将继续保持其重要角色。
