Adverse body language?

I read Andrew Low's letter (PJ, 9 March 2013, p268) in response to my letter about white coats (PJ, 2 March 2013, p228) with interest. I must say that I find it difficult to believe the antagonism that Mr Low encountered from his customers when they saw him wearing a white coat. His letter also said that he has, in general, hostile customers, which is something I have never encountered in close to 60 years on the Register. I suggest that the coercion he was experiencing from his employer to wear a white coat was producing an adverse body language. Experience shows that customers are quick to pick up changes in shop atmosphere.
