A Research on Conductive Mechanism of Conductive Channels in Thick Film Resistors

Conductive chain channels of the carbon/resin thick film resistors are formed in the linkage of the minimal area between contact points of carbon black particles. Therefore, large effect may be given in the electrical conduction characteristics, as the slight physical deformation of the resistor gives the change in contact condition of the particles. The analysis of the fundamental conduction mechanism is insufficient still in spite of adoption in the wide field. We intend to obtain the clue of improvement of the characteristics of conductive channels by analyzing the relationship between contact condition of carbon particles and conduction mechanism. Especially conduction mechanism was examined from voltage characteristics of the resistor, and it was discussed. From the experimental results, we found that the conduction mechanism show the tunnel effect in low electric field, and then shifted it to the Schottky effect according to higher electric field.
