A process for the determination of a supporting torque - set value (mU) for an electric motor-driven power steering system comprises the following steps:a) it is a steering torque (msens) determined;b) it is a vehicle speed (v) determined;c) it is a motor angle speed (ω) is determined;d) from a predetermined set of characteristic curves (20), at least as a function of the vehicle speed (v) and the motor angle speed (ω) a characteristics field output size (kKlf, MKlf) ; ande), starting from the detected steering torque (msens) , while taking into account the characteristics field output size (kKlf, MKlf) the supporting torque - desired value (mU) for the power steering system is determined.
