This translating machine has become popular because it can simply translate word, phrases, sentences, or even text including songs, from one language to another language. This study is aimed to seek the information about the quality of Google Translate from Bahasa Indonesia into English. Besides, the specific purpose of this study is to describe the translation quality of Google Translate in translating song entitled “Seribu Tahun Lamanya”.ududThis study employs descriptive qualitative research design, because this study focuses on ¬comprehending phenomena of Google Translate translation of a song from Bahasa Indonesia into English. The object of this study is an Indonesian song written by Pongki Barata entitled “Seribu Tahun Lamanya”. The data are collected from the documentation of the translated song, which has been analyzed by the raters who are translation experts. The data of this study was analyzed by giving rate of the translated song based on the accuracy of the transfer of Source Text (ST) content, and the quality of expression in Target Language (TL).ududThe result of this study showed that Google Translate has standard level of translation in translating song from Bahasa Indonesia into English. The writer found that the translated text has tolerable accuracy in transferring the general ideas of the whole song, but some grammar and lexical errors still occur in the translated song which make the message in some part of the song are less comprehensive. Furthermore, the quality of expression in the Target Language (TL) in some parts is read like an original Source Text (ST) but some are read like literally word-for-word translation. It can be concluded that Google Translate still appropriate to be utilized to translate song but it still needs human translator to pay attention to the sense of the language to avoid the hidden message from the translated text.
