摘要

The incidence of primary liver carcinoma is significantly increased in many countries of Southeast Asia, and the etiology of the disease remains unknown. With the discoveries that flatoxins do occur in important foodstuffs and that they are potent carcinogens in animals, it became important to determine whether the presence of these compounds in human food supplies might be associated with elevated incidence of the disease. These questions thus led to those phases of the study that have been the principal topics of study reported, namely a survey of the frequency of occurrence of aflatoxins in human foods and foodstuffs, together with an epidemiologic survey of the incidence of liver carcinoma, the latter being intended to improve the limited data that are available bearing on the incidence of the disease.
