摘要

During the summer of 1986 a representation of deans of schools of pharmacy and allied health met in Orlando, Florida and Reno, Nevada to address issues affecting entry and retention of minority and disadvantaged individuals in pharmacy and allied health professions training programs at the post-secondary and baccalaureate levels. They discussed the merit of strategies implemented to affect the status of disadvantaged individuals in such health professions training, and reviewed the roles of educational institutions, the health professions and the government in the arena. Recommendations focused on: curriculum evaluation as related to the needs of minority students; identification of viable minority students; marketing/recruitment strategies; linkages with high minority enrollment high schools; problems of student retention; commitment of resources for minority initiatives; data collection systems to evaluate the effectiveness of efforts; and a host of other topics.
