Partnership in Innovative Preparation for Educators and Students (PIPES).

Through the Partnership in Innovative Preparation for Educators and Students (PIPES) program, the Center for STEM Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs responded to the lagging performance and retention of middle and high school students in science and math through the use of innovative and supportive partnerships with parents, educators, and professionals. Leveraging on-campus faculty as well as the technology and military industries that are so prevalent in the Pikes Peak area, the PIPES program aspired to attract and encourage a new generation of creative, artistic, and innovative students to solve our future problems related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). PIPES research provided tangible results to the Air Force by directly addressing the concern about maintaining a workforce with the requisite STEM skills needed to support the Air Force's mission. Furthermore, PIPES addressed the STEM professional shortage by researching the most effective ways of developing STEM-cognizant students who pursue a STEM degree after graduation.
