It is impossible to unscramble eggs and it would be impossible to go back to the days when all Australian export wheat was sold through a single desk. Nor is this being advocated. But with a number of market and grain quality factors now operating, itwould be of benefit to grain growers, if such were the case. Overseas grain buyers are bidding low prices for wheat and barley, hoping to exploit the new multiple wheat seller system and some grain quality issues. The onus of holding wheat and barley prices is currently resting with Australian grain growers.
