EQUITY IN TRANSPORTATION NEW APPROACH IN TRANSPORT PLANNING – PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF CASE STUDY IN CRACOW

The goal of the paper is to present the concept of equity as a new approachin transport and land-use planning. This concept is consistent with the objectives ofsustainable development and it is becoming more common in European and worldliterature. Understanding the idea of equity in the context of the transport systemdevelopment is very important in creating sustainable cities and regions withoutdiscriminating any social groups and creating a cohesive society not exposed to socialexclusion due to lack of access to primary and secondary activities. The paper presentssome results of the preliminary analysis on transport equity in Cracow. The basic equitylevel which has been considered here concerns senior citizens, older people living inCracow area, in terms of their accessibility to transport infrastructure. Taking intoaccount living conditions of elderly pedestrians, contour measures were used, in order todetermine accessibility as equity indicator.
