Mo Yan’ s writing of life, starting from life’ s position and putting the life as the premise of all human value, contains strong criticalness. He is not only critical life insulted and damaged in the survival of the reality, also critical the alienation of life at⁃titude in the spirit of the age. The Republic of Wine presents a world filled with materialism, hedonism, egoism, nihilism, Nie⁃tzsche’ s “dionysian spirit” and the philosophy of life, constituting a great irony. Metaphor of“eating people”, with the spirit of Lu Xun, constituting an irony, reveals grouping depravity of intellectuals.
