After making the analysis to the essence of verbal humor through the theory of linguistic categorization, the researching findings are revealed that the verbal humor will be created during the process of the categorization in the linguistic system. The humorous competence of the communicative subjects can be cultivated and improved through the training and acquiring of the four types of skills and knowledge as matching the lexical meaning and the contextual meaning, interrelating the things in different categories, the internal mechanisms of the linguistic categorization as well as the features of the linguistic categorization. Meanwhile, the studies towards the verbal humor also can make great contributions to reveal the working process of the humorous subjects＇ linguistic category.
