从苏珊·巴斯奈特的文化翻译观看《聊斋志异》中文化负载词的翻译

摘要

《聊斋志异》是一本收录了400余篇奇幻故事的短篇小说集。作为一本成书于17世纪初文言小说衰败之际的作品，《聊斋志异》的出现给文言小说注入了新的活力。与以往或宣扬封建迷信，或娱乐大众的该类小说不同的是，《聊斋志异》表达了作者对于封建社会腐败黑暗的愤怒之情，并从他个人的独特视角探讨了某些社会问题。除具有深刻的社会意义以及鲜明、生动的艺术形象之外，其简洁直接的语言和大量文化负载词的使用也让人印象深刻。这使得《聊斋志异》具有极高的艺术价值，被喻为中国古典小说之集大成者。该小说的英译本无疑能使外国读者很好地欣赏中国古典小说，从而了解博大精深的中国文化。
　　本文以苏珊·巴斯奈特(Susan Bassnett)于20世纪80年代提出的文化翻译观为理论基础。作为文化翻译学派的领头人，巴斯奈特的理论对当代国际译学界产生了革命性、颠覆性的影响。该理论强调了翻译过程中对于文化因素的处理，指出了在文化语境中翻译作品的重要性。翻译是两种不同语言的转换，也是两种文化的相互碰撞。而译者应该具备敏锐的文化意识，选择适当的翻译策略和方法，从而有效的传达文本的文化意义，达到跨文化交流的目的。本文在文化翻译观的理论关照下，以翻译的文化功能对等为指导，以丹尼斯·梅尔和维克多·梅尔翻译的《聊斋志异》英译本Strange Tales from Make-Do Studio为蓝本，对《聊斋志异》中的文化负载词的翻译进行研究，旨在分析译者是如何通过灵活使用不同的翻译策略和方法来处理源文本中的文化因素，从而达到文化功能对等的目的。
