In conclusion, an organization builds a model for developing a multi-faceted marine science program for the K-12 environment that responds to community and societal needs by starting with an assessment and overview of those needs. One must determine how best to respond to and address the needs based on the tools, skills and strengths of your organization. Finding partners and building collaborative relationships are not only essential to strengthening your response, but are also key in securing funding for the projects. In developing curricula components it is helpful to know what already exists and how you can use or adapt it, and where appropriate, be prepared to create original curricula activities. Again, collaboration with teachers and those in the classroom is essential. In addition, one must balance science content and current pedagogy in creating dynamic successful curriculum programs. If appropriate, consider the value of field-based learning. Finally, at the beginning of program development design and plan for implementation of evaluation techniques that will enable you to continue to assess and revise your program as needed.
