PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether a category given to an defective image belongs to a proper category without performing complex calculation. PSOLUTION: One category is previously given to an objective defect image 72 by a worker and ranges ESBx1/SB-ESBx3/SBand ESBy/SB1-ESBy3/SBof feature quantity are set from mean values and standard deviations of feature quantities of types x, y of defective images which belong to three categories. The feature quantity USBx2/SBof one type x of the objective defect image 72 is contained only in the range ESBx2/SBof feature quantity. Thus, one vote is given to a category that centers on an average location 7021. Similar voting is also performed to the other type y of feature quantity. Thus, one vote is given to a category that centers on an average location 7021. Then, when a category having the greatest votes is different from a category given to the objective defect image, a result thereof is notified to the worker.
