Compared to passenger vehicles, Electric Power Steering (EPS) system requires a much higher response ability, acceleration performance, and reliability. Because there is no cost advantage from implementing an high resolution, it is essential to use a lower cost resolution sensor to achieve cost effectiveness. Yet, under a wide range of speed, more precise control is necessary. In this paper, a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine) torque controller has been designed for the EPS system based on the novel M/T method with low-cost hall-effect sensor. Using a power-pack for the EPS system both response and robustness are verified through the following experimental results.
