1 Introduction "Identity" is a hot term in fields such as sociology, psychology, and politics. In recent years it has also become an important aspect in linguistics. From the perspective of constructionism, identity is a multi-layered phenomenon, constructed within social and individual processes instead of being monolithic or permanent in nature, so it is considered to be characterized by hybridity and regarded in terms of a multitude of identities and/or movements between different positions (Pietik/iinen and Durra, 2006 ). With this assumption, we can assume that teachers surely present multiple identities. In order to make this issue clear, we took an M. A. defence discourse as the research site to explore what identities of teachers are present in this discourse and try to find out why it is the case.
