摘要
A selectively light absorbing coloured, transparent or translucent layer is formed on a substrate by simultaneously vapour depositing at least two substances comprising one or more organic compounds which are either coloured or decompose or dissociate to form a coloured compound, and an inorganic substance such as silicon monoxide, cryolite, magnesium fluoride and titanium dioxide. Suitable organic compounds are: azo colouring substances, phthalocyanine compounds and fuchsine derivatives. A non-opaque metal layer such as Al or Ag may be vapour deposited over the coloured layer. Examples are given of the formation of different coloured layers on a glass substrate by evaporating the organic and inorganic substances from crucibles supported in a vacuum chamber.
