1446831 Deodorization and steam refining of fats and oils PARKSON CORP 16 Aug 1974 [4 Sept 1973] 36200/74 Heading C5C A process for deodorization and steam refining of glyceride fats and oils comprises the steps of mixing steam with the liquid glyceride; passing the steam-liquid mixture through a contactor comprising a confined tortuous flow path; controlling the temperature within the flow path so as to effect destruction and removal of any peroxides and to obtain an outlet temperature from the contactor of at least 350‹ F.; causing a pressure letdown within the contactor so as to cause the volatiles contained or formed by reaction within the liquid glyceride to vaporize in the contactor; and passing the resultant steam-liquid mixture into a separator and removing the deodorized and refined product. In the examples palm oil, coconut oil, an animal tallow, a grease, a blended oil containing refined and bleached soybean oil and cottonseed oils, a refined and bleached soybean oil feed, palm kernel oil and soybean oil are treated.
