PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a measuring method for deflection of a plurality of rod shape objects. PSOLUTION: In the first measurement process of a multitude of fuel rods 4 in a fuel assembly, distance information of peripheral fuel rods 4 is output as a mountain waveform by scanning outside sensors 22 and 23 along X-axis and Y-axis. The peak value of the mountain waveform is calculated with an arithmetic means 28 to obtain the distances from X-axis and Y-axis to the peripheral fuel rods 4. In the second measurement process, a probe 9 arranging a pair of capacitance sensors 14 face to face is inserted between two adjacent fuel rods 4, 4 in the X-axis direction and the Y-axis direction, which outputs respective distance information from the probe 9 to the facing fuel rods 4 as the mountain waveform. By treating them for total mountain waveform with output waveform summing means 31 and 32, the distance between adjacent rodlike objects is calculated from the peak value with the arithmetic means 28. By the first and the second measurement processes, the positions of each fuel rod are measured at the position in the middle of longitudinal direction of the fuel rods 4 and near a support grid to detect deflection.
