The device has light sources arranged on a light surface. A part of the light sources is LEDs, which form a LED field (3) consisting of lines of LEDS that are arranged linearly next to each other. A dual spacing of adjacent light sources in boundary areas (4.1, 4.2) of the light surface is larger than in a central area (5) of the light surface. The light sources in the boundary areas beside the LED field are controlled independently of the LEDs of the LED field. Optical imaging elements are arranged downstream of the light sources in the boundary areas in a radiation path.
