The present invention provides methods and systems for adjusting video quality outputted by an aerial vehicle 202 to manage the data stream bandwidth to match the needs of each mission segment. A mission segment, such as forward flight, hover and stare, or surveillance, is monitored in order to determine a preferred video quality of service (QoS), comprising frame rate, video resolution, or imager controls. A quality of service is set based on the monitored mission segment. The quality of service is selectively altered based on a change of at least one of a mission segment or an environmental condition. Said environmental condition comprises weather, light, or turbulence. The aerial vehicle 202 according to the invention comprises a camera 214, a flight management system, FMS, 204, an inertial navigation system, INS, 206, a QoS manager 212 and a global positioning system, GPS, 208.
