This disclosure relates to plant cells comprising a heterologous expressioncassette, theexpression cassette comprising a heterologous promoter operably linked to apolynucleotideencoding a PYR/PYL receptor polypeptide, wherein the PYR/PYL receptorpolypeptide ischaracterized by the presence of one or both of a polyketide cyclase domain 2(PF10604) or apolyketide cyclase domain 1 (PF03364), and wherein the PYR/PYL receptorpolypeptidecomprises SEQ ID NO:102, wherein the plant cell has improved stress tolerancecompared to aplant cell lacking the expression cassette.
