A Survey of Citizen Views and Concerns About Urban Life

The American city is the place in which society's economic, cultural, and intellectual needs--though not its residential needs--can best be met. That is one of the interesting findings that have resulted from this survey of citizen views about urban life conducted by Louis Harris and Associates. The survey, completed in January 1978, provided citizen input into the President's 1978 report to the Congress on urban policy. More than 7,000 citizens in urban, suburban, and rural areas throughout the country were asked to give their views on the present condition and future prospects of their communities. This publication, here reprinted, outlines the survey's general findings.
