Analysis of a Professional Officer Master's Degree Program

This analysis establishes that advanced education is considered an essential requirement in the development of effective, professional Air Force officers. It identifies the Air Force guidance that is used to motivate officers to take civilian master's program to partially fulfill the advanced education requirement. Through a survey of officers at Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College, data was collected to determine the effectiveness of civilian off-duty master's programs in meeting Air Force and officer professional education needs. Analyses find the current education system has weaknesses and recommend a DOD supported, military/civilian managed, master's degree program.
