Interdisciplinary strategy to train graduate students in English communication for international academic conferences

In the UK, medical students have the opportunity to undertake a separate degree during their undergraduate medical curriculum. As the competition for specialty training posts increases, the quintessential medical student will be expected to have an additional degree when applying for competitive specialties (McManus et al. 1999)- The UK foundation programme application awards extra points for having additional degrees, therefore increasing the chances of obtaining a desired postgraduate post (UK Foundation Programme Office 2012).
