摘要

Enameling has been a favored form of expression ever since it was introduced by the Mughals, centuries ago. It has adorned exquisite pieces of jewelry, especially the ones encrusted with precious stones. The technique adopted most commonly incorporates enameling on engraved metal surfaces. What most people are aware of is the traditional red-blue-green enamel work called 'Meena' on gold and silver jewelry, besides adorning jewelry boxes, silver and gold utensils, snuff boxes and the likes. It is primarily done by professional jewelers and is used in typical motifs, the highly specialized skills and knowledge having passed down through the generations. One such artist was Sardar Kudrat Singh, an internationally acclaimed master craftsperson par excellence, whose family still carries on the tradition of enameling.
