A 142 bp Sau3A interspersed repetitive DNA element has been characterized from pig (Sus scrofa) which is comprised of a basic repeat motif of 47nts. The sequence possesses the characteristics of interspersed element (SINEs) described in other mammals. This repeats shows homology with other pig SINE sequences. A family of interspersed repeat from miniature swine had been reported to transcribe in thymus and liver Although computer analysis predicted an open reading frame of 47 amino acids, however Northern hybridization of piglet RNA failed to detect any transcript.
