Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Minerals, Mr Purnomo Yusgiantoro, acknowledged that a number of mining companies had suspended activities due to uncertainty over the draft of the new mining law."But the companies which are already producing will continue to operate. The firms that are suspending their operations are those in the exploration stage,"he said. His comments followed the announcement earlier in the week that PT Newmont Pacific Nusantara was concluding its greenfield exploration in Indonesia. The company's director of technical affairs, Mr Ed Pressman, had said the decision was prompted by the lack of a clear legal framework and mining investment policy.
