Polyposis research in colorectal cancer

Q Following on from your initial medical training, what would you say were the main reasons that led you to specialize in the field of colorectal cancer?I trained in general surgery in Auckland, New Zealand, at a time when colorectal surgery as a specialty was in its infancy. However, it was clear to me that specialization in an area of interest was associated with increased expertise, and that expertise fed on itself in that as reputations grew, referrals followed. It was also apparent that colorectal surgery was a particularly challenging, rewarding and interesting field of surgery, with opportunities to excel, to stand out and to really help people.
