Functional food in Greece - legal conditions for the marketing of fortified normal food and food supplements.

Functional food as food providing an additional nutritional of physiological benefit that may help to promote health or reduce the risk of disease has not been subject to any direct legislative action in Greece. This report considers the legal aspects of marketing of functional or fortified food, including food supplements, in Greece. Pre-marketing authorization, permitted substances and product composition, requirements for approval and notification, and approval procedures and validity are addressed, as well as the possible sanctions and defence options for infringement of food and food supplement regulations.
