Chernovtsy brewery is one of the first and largest enterprises of the city of Chernovtsy. It was built in 1859, when Bukovina region was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire. Soon the plant was re-equipped for steam service and became the first company of such kind in the region. Production volumes then made 12,960 buckets of beer. As soon as by 1910, beer production reached 100 ths. hectoliters of the drink. A year later, the company underwent modernization, thus, boosting beer production to 150,000 hectoliters. During this period, Bukovina-brewed beer was supplied not only to the local market, but to Galichina and some European regions. After Bukovina turned part of Romania, beer markets expanded with Bessarabia and Stary Regat lands. The scheduled reconstruction of the plant was held in 1920, following which the enterprise set up alcohol production. At the same time, the company was also engaged in malt production and exports.
