Thanks to the contributions made by the Protein 3000 Project and organizations like PCProt, which has been established as part of an industry initiative to tackle protein structure analysis, we are getting closer and closer to being able to employ logical drug discovery processes that are based on target protein structural data. Meanwhile, as we gain access to more and more information relating to the proteins associated with specific diseases, we are also starting to see moves towards real genomics-based drug discovery processes. There are hopes that structural data on target proteins will contribute to the development of the new drugs of tomorrow.
