The state of nuclear engineering education: Snapshots from around the world

More than 430 participants gathered at PHYSOR 2010, held May 9-14 in Pittsburgh, to discuss the subject of the meeting's theme, "Advances in Reactor Physics to Power the Nuclear Renaissance." The conference was sponsored by the ANS Reactor Physics and Mathematics and Computation divisions and organized by the ANS Pittsburgh Section.rnAccording to the plenary speakers, the nuclear renaissance is alive and well. Wes-tinghouse Electric Company's president and chief executive officer, Aris Candris, kicked off the meeting with the message that the nuclear renaissance is inevitable, and Bertrand Barre, of France, completed the picture by summarizing the obstacles still facing the renaissance, which include economic competitiveness, public acceptance, nuclear waste, and nonproliferation.
