Cyanide Copper Plating Reinvents Itself

The name "copper" comes from the Latin word I cuprum, which means "from the Island of I Cyprus." Archeological evidence suggests that people have been using copper for at least 11,000 years. The first authenticated use of copper plating is ascribed to Henry Bessemer, better known as a pioneer in steel manufacture. In 1831 Bessemer plated castings of insects, frogs, and plants by immersing them in copper sulfate solutions in a zinc tray. Electroplating with an external source of electricity followed quickly in 1983. J. Wright, a Birmingham surgeon, developed the first cyanide plating solution.
