The Chinese recently announced that they are banning their athletes who will be attending the London Olympics from eating Chinese pork in case it contains clenbuterol - an IOC banned performance enhancing substance. Their athletes are going to be fed fish and protein powders to supply their protein needs. Is this a confession that the IOC is better able at detecting contaminants than the Chinese food industry or is it a case that the Chinese know the real state of their pork industry and are implementing measures to avoid embarrassment at the London Olympics? More importantly, is there a message here that everyone who is importing either finished food products or ingredients from China needs to reflect on?
