Around the store, the growth is...around the store. It's no secret that the perimeter departments in supermarkets―produce, dairy, deli, meat, seafood, frozen, bakery―are where the action is, and that both suppliers and retailers who develop an expertise in managing and growing these departments will reap the greatest rewards. Few companies are in as prime a position as General Mills, which plays in more temperature-controlled categories than just the three highlighted in this year's Category Leadership report. But those three―frozen bread, refrigerated dough, and refrigerated yogurt―all allow the Minneapolis-based company to show off different facets of its category management skills.
