Over the last several years, a number of interconnect technologies have emerged, each addressing different portions of the computing, storage and networking markets: Ethernet, PCI-X, PCI Express (PCIe), Serial Rapid I/O (SRIO), and InfiniBand, among others (see Fig. 1). The two most widely used are Ethernet and PCIe.
