摘要

The philosopher Pietro Montani reflects on the paradoxical nature of the master-pupil relationship. Originality, creativity, doctrine and style are the keynotes of that complex and intense interrelation, which may even turn a pupil into a master Passing on mastery is a notoriously impossible task (and one generally unpopular with the masters themselves, who are often egocentric and narcissistic). Masters must train students, not other experts. Anyone who had the idea of training the experts themselves would be seen as delusional -and with good reason. So when a master sets about fashioning a new master, it must occur unconsciously, without the former being aware of it happening.
