With defence budgets under constant scrutiny, the pressure on industry to provide real value-for-money solutions has never been greater. The focus of western governments has primarily been on the Middle East, and the priority, quite rightly, has been on ensuring land-based operations and frontline units take precedence in the allocation of funding. Broadly speaking, this has resulted in a disproportionate 'squeeze' on naval spending, with a seemingly never-ending search for cost saving and cost cutting opportunities.
