It may be of interest to readers that London's Victoria Bus Station (You Write last month) might well already have been history had an earlier attempt by property developers to get their hands on the station forecourt succeeded. Fifteen or so years ago, my then employer, Transport for London, was approached by those developers who have recently completed the massive new office block and shopping complexes to the north of Victoria Street with a proposal to relocate the bus facilities as part of that redevelopment. What we were offered was a facility below ground adjacent to the corner of Buckingham Palace Road and Bressenden Place. In other words, a northwards shift of the bus station of 200m or more, which would entail a 600m walk from the far end of Sussex side platforms.
