Value-based Healthcare: Surgeon-specific Public Reporting in Total Joint Arthroplasty—A Rational Way Forward

Public reporting of surgeon-specific outcomes is not new, but its role in the current healthcare environment is increasing. Our heightened interest in value-based health care coupled with improvements in information dissemination technology have combined to produce an unprecedented array of physician-specific performance data available in the public domain. The ProPublica Surgeon Scorecard is one example of a surgeon-specific rating system currently available for public use (https://projects.propublica.org/surgeons).
