伪翻译通常出现在特定的历史文化背景中，晚清时期大量伪译本的出现就与当时的文化历史条件密切相关。1903年张肇桐创作了小说《自由结婚》，却以翻译之名将其出版。该伪译本形成的原因主要有三个。首先，该小说在创作的最初就受到了“开民智和求变革”这一主流意识形态的巨大影响；其次，伪译者认识到了翻译小说的文学地位和政治功用，期望以文载道，在翻译的伪装下传播革命思想；第三，晚清的出版机构等赞助人为伪翻译的产生提供了可能。%As a kind of“masked literature”, pseudotranslation is often created under certain needs in certain social and cultural context. The great number of pseudotranslation published in Late Qing period is related to the historical and cultural condition of that period. Free Marriage is published as a translated novel with an introduction of writer called John C.Vancouver and a transla⁃tor named Liberty Flower, while it is actually written by Zhang Zhaotong. Based on Toury ’s view of pseudotranslation, the myth of this pseudotranslation work is gradually unfolded through specific analysis of three main factors:ideology, poetics and pa⁃tronage.
