In China’s private universities, how to improve teaching outcomes remains a major challenge for college English teachers. This study investigates learning style differences of 119 non-English undergraduates in Sanda University. It reveals that students prefer visual and auditory learning and more of them are global and closure-oriented. Students with auditory, closure and particular preference score higher in CET-4 exam. Based on the findings, the paper suggests college English teachers maxi-mize students’learning style differences by diversifying language tasks and assessment systems, following a learner-based approach to language teaching that explicitly highlights the role of the learners’styles within everyday classroom language instruction.%民办高校增加英语教学学时和小班教学的作法较为普遍,如何提高课堂教学的有效性是大学英语教师面临的共同问题。通过对上海杉达学院119名非英语专业本科生的学习风格进行调查,结果显示,倾向于视觉型、听觉型、谨慎组织型、整体型的学生较多,听觉型、具体条理型以及谨慎组织型学习风格与大学英语四级成绩的相关性更高。由此,文章指出在民办高校公共英语教师应该注意语言任务的多样化、语言评价的多样化,以学生为中心,注重在课堂教学中学习者的学习风格所扮演的角色。
