从“关雎”的多元英译看中国典籍外译现状与问题

摘要

Great divergence has been displayed in the interpretation of Guan Ju, but even greater is the divergence among its English translations. Twenty-two English versions of Guan Ju are studied to reveal how they differ in terms of structure, theme, lexical meaning, perspective of narration, etc. According to their divergences in translator＇ s identity, aim of translation and textual value, they can be classified into three types, namely translation based on traditional interpretation, translation based on modem interpretation and creative poetic translation. The above analyses suggest that Chinese classics in the modem sense are in effect the combination of the original Chinese classics, their various interpretations, their translations in modem Chinese and their translations in foreign languages.%自古以来对“关雎”的阐释多有分歧，其英译文则体现出更为显著的多元性。本文选取“关雎”的22种英译文作为研究对象，探讨其在结构、主题、叙述视角、词义等多方面的分歧与差异。这22种英译文按照其在译者身份、翻译目的、译文形态上体现出的不同特征，可划分为“传统型翻译”、“现代型翻译”、“诗性创译”三类。本文最后指出，现代意义上的典籍事实上是原本、注解本、今译本与外译本等的共同组合体。
