从翻译不确定性看《红楼梦》中“来”字的英译

摘要

本文从翻译不确定性理论出发，梳理理论框架，运用汉英平行语料库，与汉英翻译实践相结合，对《红楼梦》中的趋向动词“来”字进行分析及归类，阐明了导致其翻译不确定性的因素，并进一步说明了翻译的确定性和不确定性之间的关系，提出翻译过程应以确定性因素为基础，而不确定性则允许译者在一定范围内进行创作和变通，这就为翻译过程包括描述性与规约性因素提供了合理解释。
　　蒯因由彻底翻译思想提出翻译的不确定性论题。本文从蒯因的彻底翻译思想实验入手，辩证地指明实验目的，实验过程假设以及实验中的行为主义因素，深入剖析论题起源；借助彻底翻译思想实验的论证思路说明了翻译不确定性论题的合理性和科学性，为翻译不确定性与翻译实践相联系提供了理论基础。
　　本研究同时也指出蒯因的翻译不确定性理论需要进一步修改和完善。本文采用戴维森的真值条件意义论对其进行补充说明，说明翻译的不确定性与诠释不确定性的联系，根据从诠释到翻译的可能性证实了可译性。
　　根据《红楼梦》汉英平行语料库中趋向动词“来”字的语料实例，造成翻译不确定性的主要因素为词汇层面和文化层面的不确定性。词汇层面的不确定性因素主要包括汉英词汇的不对应性，以及汉语词汇本身存在的不确定性；文化层面的不确定性主要源自于原文作者创作时采用的封建等级视角。与此同时翻译还存在确定性，翻译的确定性与不确定性是忠实与叛逆，不变与万变，整体与局部的关系。翻译确定性与不确定性之间的关系综合影响译者的选择，造成重意合而轻形合，重整体而轻个体，有时甚至导致译者在文化层面上的叛逆。总而言之，译者应当始终以翻译确定性为基础，可以适当范围内对其不确定性发挥创造，这就合理解释了文学作品存在不同译本的意义与价值。
