Validation and calibration of ocean colour sensors withrnin situ data is key for successful exploitation of theirrndata. Ship campaigns are expensive and provide a lowrnnumber of good matchups, whereas autonomousrnsystems can typically provide a matchup for each cloudfreernscene. With the distribution of free and high qualityrnimagery from Landsat-8, the amount of natural spatialrnvariability in the coastal zone becomes quantifiable, andrnthe possible impact of measurement platforms (ships,rnmoorings, structures) on the signal measured by thernsatellite becomes clear. Here we present the use ofrnLandsat-8/OLI imagery (30m) to assess the spatialrnvariability within a Sentinel-3/OLCI pixel (300m) atrnvalidation sites, as well as an illustration of the impactsrnof the measurement platforms on the satelliternmeasurement.
