As Internet becomes a more common tool in the classroom and the potential of network-based teaching and learning is more widely recognised, the need to interrogate the type of teacher training in current practice becomes apparent. Innovative practice in teaching methods requires innovative training methods - this includes addressing future teachers' need to understand and competently utilise Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for creating online collaborative learning opportunities. This article outlines experiences and discusses input gleaned from a European project designed to allow different educational agents, from diverse countries and areas of expertise, to jointly create collaborative network-based projects. By providing opportunities for learning experiences and action research, trainees could participate in and reflect on designing, managing and evaluating e-projects in their school practice. First the project is described then challenges that emerged are examined and exemplified through discussion of the diverse collaborative efforts in the project.
